I am a maker and a picture framer and can’t remember a time when I didn’t enjoy making things. My discovery of Chalk Paint a few years ago, was the catalyst that I needed to help my dream become a reality.
We first opened our doors in 2015 and it was in the autumn of that year that, as an independent shop, we were selected to become a stockist of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. We sell both painted and up-cycled furniture and offer a painting service to paint customer’s own furniture too.
Refurbishing items at the back of the shop, has brought a little bit of theatre and artisan-ship to the place and often attracts interest and questions.
We pride ourselves in providing a wide selection of well-chosen home accessories, art and handcrafted items, many of which have been made by local artisans. It is great fun being able to provide inspiration to others in creating a different look for their home.
The shop could be described as vintage with a contemporary twist or maybe it is contemporary with a vintage twist, but hopefully you will be able to find that different something you have always been looking for!
A Painted Room offers paint and craft-based workshops, fun and relaxed sessions hosted by Gabrielle, who has been trained by Annie Sloan. They introduce beginners and those with some knowledge of Chalk Paint™ to both the basic and advanced techniques, enabling you to tackle your own projects with confidence! These workshops have proved to be very popular! Look at our workshops page for more details.
“Training with Annie Sloan has given me the opportunity to encourage and teach others through our own series of workshops”.
We also offer a made to measure picture framing service for your prints, paintings, photography or precious artefacts. Choose from a choice selection of frames in the shop and be guided by our reliable staff. We are happy to guide and advise you on your choice of frame and will provide a reasonable quote before any work is undertaken.
A Painted Room evolved from a lifelong love of art and crafts and a feeling that our local community would benefit from the type of shop we have created. Based on William Morris’s principle of, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful”. Our collection of artefacts has been assembled in an inviting space and the room filled with hand-crafted items, created both locally and from around the world.
Great shop, just bought a beautiful rocking chair and a felt rug. Very pleased with my purchases and the friendly service.
I recently had an exhibition of pieces that were all framed by Gabrielle and everyone who saw them commented on the quality of the framing and the way it helped the body of work to cohere. Would recommend to anyone!
If you fancy trying your hand at using Annie Sloan paints, head to A Painted Room in Moseley. I’d never even painted anything before and was a bit nervous but Gabrielle put me at ease straight away with her patient, encouraging teaching. Learnt lots of new techniques and to my surprise they worked resulting in a fabulous picture frame! Well worth the money.
